A New Substitute Teacher Pilot for Richmond, Petersburg, Henrico & Chesterfield
Child Care Aware of Virginia is excited to launch Virginia Child Care Substitute Hub, VASubHub, a new pilot program connecting licensed child care centers in the Richmond region with trained, reliable substitute teachers.
Staffing shortages continue to challenge early learning programs across Virginia—forcing programs to reduce enrollment, close classrooms, or stretch staff thin. VASubHub offers a practical, community-driven solution to help keep classrooms open and support the educators who care for our youngest learners.
This pilot is made possible through a collaborative partnership with the Virginia Department of Education and a generous grant from the Robins Foundation, whose investment continues its commitment to advancing early childhood care and education for children and families across Virginia.
What is VASubHub?
VASubHub is a centralized substitute pool pilot program for licensed child care and early childhood education centers in Richmond, Henrico, Petersburg, and Chesterfield.
Through the pilot, participating child care centers can request qualified substitutes through a simple, streamlined system supported by Child Care Aware of Virginia. All substitutes will have completed all VDOE staff requirements, including background checks, orientation training, and onboarding.
